Overview:
ONE Lowell is a small community based organization that provides services and advocacy for Lowell’s large immigrant and refugee community. Our staff and board are multicultural and we are looking for someone who enjoys working in a cross cultural environment. We believe that our relationships within our organization should reflect the kind of community we are hoping to create, and are therefore looking for someone who values our goals as well as the people in our organization. We work to build networks and bridges across ethnic groups, address the political and social inequities in the city, and inform, educate, mobilize and empower newcomer groups.
Spanish-speaking Parent Liaison
General Description:
The Parent Liaison will provide support services to Spanish speaking parents of underachieving students, particularly those students with high rates of absenteeism in school. These services will include home visits to translate and interpret school information, explain the school system and the importance of attending class, and act as an interpreter/liaison between the parent and their child’s teacher, principal, and others in the school. This will increase parent involvement with the school and thereby promote school achievement among the students as measured in better school attendance.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct home visits to parents of Spanish speaking students with high absentee rates.
- Act as an interpreter for families during parent-teacher visits.
- Translate written information when appropriate.
- Provide families with translated information explaining the American school system and the importance of attending classes.
- Conduct general family assessments and identify needs.
- Refer families to outside service providers in the city as needed.
- Participate in program meetings with collaborating agencies and community forums.
- Assist and support staff in the identification and review of resource materials; and development/adaptation of culturally and linguistically appropriate informational and educational materials for the Latino communities, as needed.
Hours: 20 hours per week
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to work with a bilingual, bicultural and multidisciplinary team.
- Must be fluent in Spanish and English, written and verbal.
- Must have cultural skills for working with Hispanics.
- Willing to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
- Must have a high school education.
- Experience with case management, human services, or community organizing.
- Experience with youth and parents preferred.
- Working knowledge of the Hispanic community in Lowell and a familiarity with the Lowell service provider network preferred.
- Experience with program planning and implementation useful.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English and Spanish.
- Reports to Executive Director.

Administrative Assistant
General Description
The Administrative Assistant will work with the Executive Director to manage ONE Lowell’s programs and services. This job requires 20 hours per week, with flexibility between the hours of 9:00am - 3:00pm.
Job responsibilities
- Manage the accounts payable process insuring that expenses are properly charged to appropriate contracts.
- Create, coordinate, and submit documentation for budgetary reimbursement.
- Develop and update contact databases.
- Manage Constant Contact list serve
- Provide Excel based analysis of program statistics and effectiveness.
- Supervise maintenance of organizational database.
- Participate in relevant committees and community groups
- Identify and research grant opportunities.
- Provide grant writing support to the Executive Director
- Coordinate mass mailings
- Assist with special events.
- Update website to maintain its effectiveness as an outreach tool.
- Organize meetings, trainings, and events.
- Develop outreach and other marketing materials such as brochures, info packets, and leaflets.
- Other tasks as may be assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications
- Two years experience using Quick Books
- Two years experience using Excel spreadsheets
- Respect for and ability to work with multi-cultural staff
- Commitment to social justice and community service.
- Good English oral and written communication skills
- Ability to manage time, meet deadlines, work independently as well as within a team.
Compensation based upon experience.
